7 Tips for Kids Creating Booths: Flexing Kidpreneur Muscles at the Children's Entrepreneurship Market
Anza Goodbar, Aspen Academy Contributor

We wanted to share our amazing experience at the Children's Entrepreneur Market at the Denver Garden and Home Show. When we first heard about it in the school newsletter, we weren't sure if it would be a good fit for Izzy to sell her books. But after some research, we decided to give it a shot and we are so glad we did!

The event was a blast! We saw kids from all over the state participating in all sorts of businesses, from crafts and food to lotions, pet beds, and jewelry. The atmosphere was fantastic, with the kids were incredibly supportive of each other and took time to check out each other’s businesses.

Izzy did an outstanding job handling all the details of her business, from setting up her table to creating talking points and securing her cash box. She even took note of areas for improvement, providing valuable insights for future events. Overall, she rated the experience a 10 out of 10!

Izzy’s Tips for A Successful Booth:

  1. Have great signage to attract visitors to your table.
  2. Have your own hot spot, you may not be able to log into venue wi-fi
  3. Be prepared to take credit cards, not just Venmo and cash (more than 70% of sales from this event came from credit cards)
  4. Be aware of venue requirements and think about what you need. Some places won't let you use wheeled dollies or wagons for load in/load out.
  5. Have a quick and easy pitch, you only get the customer's attention for a few seconds before they move on.
  6. Dress for the occasion. Be well groomed – it shows people that you care enough about them and yourself to show up!
  7. Never be afraid of a “No Thank You.” Plenty of people might not be interested in your product and that’s ok!

This event had a strict rule that parents could only be there to support their kids, allowing the young entrepreneurs to manage the entire process by themselves. Izzy handled the flow of customers like a pro, and at the end of the day, she surpassed her goal of selling five books and sold more than 25!

The Children’s Entrepreneur Market will be hosting more events in Denver this summer, and registration will open on April 1st. It's an incredible opportunity for kids to showcase their businesses and learn valuable entrepreneurial skills.

Thank you, Aspen Academy for making us aware of this opportunity! Overall, this experience was a win/win for everyone involved, and we can't wait to see what's in store for Izzy's next venture.
